2014 Jingle Bell Run/Walk

Saturday, December 13 • Old Town Plaza

Be part of the largest holiday 5K race series aimed to fight arthritis!

Chosen as one of the Most Incredible Themed Races, Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis is a fun and festive way to kick off your holidays by helping others!

Wear a holiday themed costume. Tie jingle bells to your shoelaces. Raise funds to help find a cure for arthritis, the nation's leading cause of disability. Run or walk a 5 kilometer route with your team members and celebrate the season by giving.

I was diagnosed with a rare form of juvenile arthritis when I was ten, called juvenile dermatomyositis. It primarily affects my muscles, skin and joints. The disease can be disabling and occasionally life-threatening, so I depend on my medications—medications that cause many side effects, including a fractured spine and ankle.

When I’m stuck at home from JDM or side effects, I love reading comic books and watching movies. Superheroes that faced adversity and responded with a desire to make the world a better place inspired my younger self to use my experiences to make a difference for others. Besides being a Jingle Bell team captain, I also volunteered during the summertime Walk to Cure Arthritis, as a mentor at arthritis camp, and was once the Jingle Bell child-honoree.

Superheroes teach kids they’re not alone and they can overcome, just like arthritis camp does. In this case, though, the real superheroes are the donors and volunteers who make it all possible. This December, put on your capes and be a hero to the 300,000 kids in the U.S. with J.A.! The Juvenile Arthritis Action League will be there with bells on—superhero costumes, too!
